SUMMARY:Year 9 OLNA
DESCRIPTION:Year 9 Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA)\nAs students in Year 9 were not able to complete NAPLAN in 2020\, an alternative Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) will be available for Year 9 students this year. \nThe Purpose of Year 9 OLNA 2020 \nBy the completion of their secondary schooling\, students are expected to have developed the literacy and numeracy skills required for the next phase of their life. For this reason\, it is a requirement for students to demonstrate a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to be eligible to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) at the completion of Year 12.\nThese standards can be demonstrated in two ways: \n* performance in the Year 9 NAPLAN\, or\n* performance in the OLNA. \nStudents who do not demonstrate the minimum standard in reading\, writing or numeracy in Year 9 NAPLAN are scheduled to sit the required components of the OLNA in March and September when in Year 10. Students have further opportunities to demonstrate the standards in Years 11 and 12\, giving students up to six opportunities to demonstrate the required skills in each component before the end of Year 12.\nAfter each OLNA round\, schools are provided with individual feedback on each student’s performance. These reports will be used to structure student learning to assist them in developing the skills they need to demonstrate the required standard. \nAs students in Year 9 were not able to prequalify for OLNA through NAPLAN in 2020\, students will complete the OLNA test this year. This will provide an additional opportunity for students to demonstrate their literacy and numeracy standards for the WACE.\nThe OLNA is an online test. The reading and numeracy components each comprise 45 multiple‐choice questions and students have 50 minutes to complete each component. The writing component is a typed response of up to 600 words. Students have 60 minutes to complete this component. \nTom Price Senior High School Year 9 students will be sitting their OLNA this week. \nTuesday 11th @ 8am – Writing \nWednesday 12th @ 8am – Numeracy \nThursday 8am 13th @ – Reading \nMs Nicole Kelly \n  \n  \n
