News Blog – Inter-school Athletics Carnival

Last week Tom Price Senior High School held the Inter-School Athletics Carnival on Thursday evening and Friday day. I would like to say a massive thank you to every teacher, student, parent, Cadet, and helper that were all a part of the Inter-School Carnival for 2020. Without everyone coming together and taking part, these events don’t run. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Emma Dyer and the Tom Price Cadets for catering the two days, the food was delicious.

This year we were excited to have Pannawonica and Roebourne create a joint team and attend the carnival. From my perspective, it was a fantastic two days for all schools, and it was amazing to see such talent and sportsmanship from so many of our young athletes.

The final results this year were:

1st – St Luke’s College (1024)

2nd – Karratha SHS (906)

3rd – Tom Price SHS (808)

4th – Hedland SHS (670)

5th – Newman SHS (516)

6th – Roebourne/Panna (216)

Tom Price had many successes in the Year Group results:

Year 7 Girls – 3rd place

Year 8 Boys – Joint 2nd place with St Luke’s

Year 8 Girls – Joint 1st place with St Luke’s

Year 9 Boys – 2nd place

Year 10 Girls – 3rd place

Upper School Girls – 2nd place

A big congratulations to our entire Tom Price Inter-school team who showcased plenty of talent and impeccable sportsmanship throughout the entire event.

We had 7 broken records this year with two of our own students smashing their events.

  • Chloe Weightman broke the Year 8 800m record, completing the race in 2.50.59 minutes. Chloe’s efforts in this race were incredible, she came into the 100m straight in 4th position and was able to push through to come first and beat the 3-year record of 2 minutes 59 seconds.
  • Jack Newman broke the Year 8 Boys discus record. Jack threw an incredible 31.91m beating the previous record of 31.32m.

If you see either of these students please congratulate them on their efforts!

A special thank you must go to all the student helpers, all of whom were absolute stars on Thursday and Friday. We have some very fine young students in our school, that we should be very proud of.

A final and most appreciated thank you goes out to Onsite for helping us with lighting, SES for supplying some lighting and Ice and Tom Price Emergency Service Cadets for supplying the food and setting up for the event.
